my life as a crocheter & knitter & working mom

3 of 4 waist decreases finished. I really need to make sure this is going to fit and not be too long as I've read in so many other blogs on the knitalong. (Also I am beginning to fear I won't have enough yarn in this color to finish.)

At long last, Mom's air is finished and going to be mailed. I'd rather gift in person, but she's waited long enough! Again, sorry for the bad photo. I can't wait to get my new camera!

I feel the need, the need for stash

I really, really want to stash. It's been soooo long, but I promised and your anniversary is not the day to break a promise to your beloved.

But, but, but Herrschners has a fabulous orange-multi color cotton blend on sale. It look so yummy! I don't know what I'd make with it or when I'd get to it considering all the yarn in my closet, under my bed and in bins in the (very dry) basement. They include:

20 skeins summer tweed
11 skeins Dale Kolibri
~20 skeins Reynolds Pebble Beach
8 hanks (various colors) of KPPPM and KPM
20 skeins of Calmer (sour and Onyx)
35 skeins Jo Sharp Silk Road Aran (in 3 colors)
10 hanks Magpie Aran
10 skeins Kid Classic
4 skeins Kroy socks (in two colorways)
10 skeins Rowan 4 ply cotton
12+ skeins All Seasons Cotton
15 skeins Highland Wool

And other things I can't think of.

Five years of wedded (mostly) bliss

Five years ago at this moment I was heading to the salon to be turned into a beautiful bride. She did miracles the woman. Then my sister and I went to McD's for a snack. The wedding wasn't until 5:30 and I knew I wasn't going to really get to the hors d'oeuvres at cocktail hour with the picture-taking. Oddly no one in St. Albans was too surprised to see a woman in a veil walk into their local McD's. Of course, knowing NW Vermont as I do, they probably were surprised, but too Yankee to let anyone know!

Hubby and I have had our spats and our unhappy moments, but so far, it's been a great 5 years. Since we were together for 5 before the wedding, I think we were pretty sure it would work out.

I'm so very married to him, he always comes into my dreams about other men!

We've grown accustomed to each other's quirks. He missed seeing my sourpuss when I was so sick last month and has gotten over asking me to smile so much. I know him so well that I knew he wanted to go out with the guys last night when he called at 4:25 and my prescience prevented him from asking. (I talked him into it on line for the bus.)

Now, if only I could get him to understand yarn stashing....

Air is FINISHED! No photos, yet. I rushed out of the house this morning because commuting to NY was going to be aitch-e-double hockey sticks! First, a retaining wall collapsed on the Henry Hudson Parkway north of the GWB. Then there was a fire under a bridge in NJ that suspended train service to NYS (it was back up with severe delays this morning). So, I knew the busses were going to be packed. I took an earlier local and everything went smoothly until it was time to get on the Turnpike. There a 10 car pile-up just south of the Lincoln tunnel exit caused massive delays. We went an alternate route but it was still over an hour into the city.

It meant more knitting time, but Hubby and I have 6:15 dinner reservations and tickets to a local production of Into the Woods (my favorite musical ever).

I've made some good progress on the front of my T. Not only have I had extended bus knitting time, I knit a bit on it last night watching CBS. (After I wove in the last 2 ends of Air.) I should be starting the waist decreases tonight.

Another wonky pic, but you can see I'm making mucho progress. Consecutive 1-hr+ rides into the city do that!

Not a great photo, but you can see the beautiful stitch markers Julie sent me for the Bead It exchange, and no I haven't finished mine yet!

New PC with camera!

I'm getting a new computer. With a new camera. It's not a super cool camera, but it will be good for blogging and e-mailing Billy snaps. I should have the PC next week. Yippee!

Hubby and I are filling up our calendar for this summer. Next week we go to see Bruce Springsteen, then we see Mellancamp and Fogerty in July, I go to Tori Amos with my sister in August (day before we drive to VT for Meme's birthday party), in September we go to the Stones with my parents, and we're going to Giants opening day, too. I know there are a couple of other shows I'm forgetting.

Air is nearly done. I have 1 more end to weave in. I don't know how I missed it, I think I got too wrapped up in the Amazing Race. (I was so happy that Joyce and Uchenna won. They are such good people. They nearly gave up their lead at the end to get enough money for their cab driver!) Air looks really nice. Can't wait to make my own.

I turned the hem on the T this morning on the bus. I think I'll try to get Billy's sweater done (been needing just a zipper for 3 months) tomorrow watching CBS and then it's full-time T knitting.

Next on the list are Hubby' socks (once I find the project bag), Ellspeth (in Sour Calmer), Acorn Cami (in Orange MilleFille Fiori Print), Air (Onyx Calmer), and then I'll probably start my fall/winter knitting with a Tempting in Silk Road Aran and a little something in Silk Garden #84 that I've been kicking around. Of course, I have some Cork that I want to knit into something for Billy, too!

Here is the front to NBaT after turning the hem this morning.

Zipo and Air

Zipo was gifted on Saturday. I was sitting around my dining room table with Mom and Dad when Dad asked when he'd get his sweater. I got up and grabbed it off the chair on which it was sitting and said "right now."

He really likes it. It fits well over another shirt. He wore it all weekend. I told mom it could be machine washed but that she shouldn't dry it.

As for Air, I tried but couldn't get too much done before they left. However, as of last night all that is left to complete is one, ONE, pocket flap and weaving in ends (of which there were many, lots of knots in my coffeebean calmer). Generally, I like to gift in person, but since she's been waiting so (im)patiently for nearly seven months, I'm mailing it as soon as it is finished. Since I plan on working on it during the Amazing Race (GO UCHENNA AND JOYCE) finals tonight, it should be ready to mail tomorrow. Along with a graduation card for my sister's boyfriend. He did the five-year plan for college. One nice thing about Air, it sort of fits me! Well, the sleeves are okay, but when I make mine I'll have to make the front and back a bit wider.

I have half of my bead it stitchmarkers done. Went with a completely different design. I hope she likes them. They should be in the mail by the end of the week.

I took Sleeve 1 off the needles yesterday morning. I realized Friday night as I was starting the cap shaping, that it might not fit the armhole! So, I cast on for the front yesterday. It's going pretty well. Especially since I bought a bunch of coilless safety pins. (Did you know that they sell them in the bead and jewelry section?) I plan to use them to mark increases and decreases so I don't have issues with them. Once I know the actual size of the armholes, I should be able to re-design the sleeves.

Still no pictures of anything. I don't know why I didn't take a picture of Dad in Zipo this weekend.

Thank you bead it pal

Julie sent me some beautiful stitchmarkers on a knitting safety-pin. I, of course, neglected to take a photo. I'll do it this afternoon. They're blue flowers and so feminine.

In other bead it news, I'm being slothful and haven't finished mine. I did a test run and my original plan isn't going to work. Must go get some jump rings. Think I'll take B to Michaels after his Dr appointment.

More news later, got 2 dash, see above appt!

May 6th was supposed to be my wedding date

Six years ago when we were picking a wedding date, our first choice was May 6th. At first, because the last weekend in April was unavailable at our venue, but then we remembered that the 6th was very important to us because we'd first said "I love you" on Feb 6, 1995. When Hubby, then fiance, was talking to his best man, we found out we couldn't get married on May 6. See, best man is an editor for The Daily Racing Form, and since May 6 was the first Saturday in May that year, he couldn't take time off. No one takes time off the week of Kentucky Derby Day when they work for the Racing Form. It's okay, we got married May 13th. Which turned out to be great. 13 is Hubby's favorite number and May 13, 1977 was my aunt's wedding date and I was her flower girl! (Didn't have one of those myself, not having any nieces or close friends with girl children. Well that's not completely true, but Melissa Marie was only a week old!)

Back to 2005, tonight I must clean house. Mom, Dad and sister Natalie hope to be at my place around lunchtime. My place is a sty. There are certain things I can only do while Billy is sleeping (mopping, vacuuming, using chemicals to clean the bathroom), so I have to do them tonight. Naptime tomorrow is cutting it way to close to arrival time. Tomorrow I can tidy, put stuff away, and make guest beds with him following me around.

Yesterday was fun, just the three of us. I found out Billy likes quesadillas. Not a big surprise considering the way he scarfs cheese and carbs on their own. I made chicken quesadillas for myself. I picked up some of that pre-cooked and pre-carved chicken breast and some tortillas and put them in the Foreman grill. Voila. I made a better lunch for today, though. I layered the rest of the chicken, tortillas, cheese, salsa, peppers (frozen), and sour cream into a casserole and baked. MMMMMMM. I love cheese and sour cream!

I didn't do much knitting on the T yesterday. But, I did start seaming Mom's Air. I have the shoulders put together and 1 and 1/2 arms set in. I don't like the way I hand sew (and it's not that great with a machine either) so I'm crocheting everything together. I'm much more confident with those stitches and so far everything looks good. I'd be much further along if I hadn't sewn the wrong front to the back inside out! Then I went and tried to pin a sleeve to the neck! Took me a while to figure out why it wasn't working!

As you can see, though, I did manage to get a few rows done on the T this morning. Plan to work more on the bus tonight. Hopefully, I'll get the housework done in time to do some more seaming before bed.

I'm so looking forward to seeing Mom and Dad. And celebrating Mother's Day (ooh presents). And having Billy baptized. And any other fun stuff we can think of!

Am I the only person who doesn't like Catherine Willows on CSI?

I turned the hem on sleeve 1 this morning. I've started the increases (not a big accomplishment as they are written for rows 2 and 4).

Thursday, May 05, 2005

This is sleeve one. I cast on this morning (no room on the bus for knitting last night and I didn't get around to TV knitting). I'm about ready to turn the hem. I hope my modifications (sizing up) don't prevent it from fitting the armhole. Must check Knitty.com.

Thirsty Thursday

Just me and the kids tonight. Hubby's going out with a friend to a Newark Bears game. They have a silly promotion called Thirsty Thursday. Do you ever wonder why Netter doesn't go out with friends after work? She does, too. I don't resent it, I usually like spending time by myself. Especially on Thursday when I can watch what I want to watch on our big screen TV (CSI on 21 inches isn't that great, on 48 inches much better). I can also have whatever I want for dinner (usually a rotisserie chicken) and knit til my heart's content. Although tonight I must, must, must start seaming Air. Mom will be here Saturday. Hopefully Molly will cooperate. Hmmm, think I'll buy her a new bone to bribe some cooperation out of her!

Billy's doing so much better. No more wheezing and he hardly sounds congested at all. He's barely coughing either. I must say nebulizing in the morning is so easy. I just turn on TLC and we watch Ready, Set, Learn or Peep and the Big Wide World (title may be slightly wrong). Evenings it's a little harder to find something, but he does seem to like Jimmy Neutron.

I'm still headache free. Although, I'm jonesing for some stashquisition. I think it's because as much as I like NBaT, she's a little plain vanilla. Especially since I've taken out the intarsia. I'm just a solids kind of girl. Maybe I should start a new project. I'm beginning to understand why some knitters have so many active projects at one time. I'm not getting bored with knitting; I'm just looking for a little knitting excitement.

Sometime soon, I need to start on the Bead It exchange. I found some other cute beads on eBay; they go really well with my person's blog, but I got outbid and I'm not sure how much higher I want to go. The auction ends tomorrow, so I think I'll wait and re-bid then. Bugs me how this person didn't bid at all until I placed the first bid!

Wednesday, May 04, 2005

Blurry photo and crappy colors, but proof that I finished teh NBaT back this morning on the way in. Lots of knitting done last night watching Amazing Race and L&O, if not any other time of the day. Casting on for sleeves will commence this afternoon.

update

I was going to write a really long update yesterday, whining about how sucky my weekend was, but I lost the momentum.

I had to take Billy to the doctor Friday because he had discharge from his ear, which I think I mentioned Friday. Well, the ear wasn't a concern, but she was concerned about his bronchitis. Since 3 weeks of Albuteral syrup hadn't helped his congestion or wheezing, we had to move on to a nebulizer. Which had to be delivered to our house, that evening when we were supposed to be on the road to VT to visit my family for the first time since August for my grandparents 60th anniversary party. Since he was still sick and the nebulizer didn't get there until 5:30 pm, we didn't go. I was really disappointed, but my parents and one of my sisters is coming down this weekend for his baptism, so it took off some of the sting.

The good news is as much as he hates the nebulizer, his chest is clearing up. No more wheezing at yesterday's follow-up. He's finished the oral antibiotics for his ears, he's only got one more day of antibiotic drops for his ears (took a call to ENT), and another week of one drug in the nebulizer. He's taking Zyrtec for allergies, which has really knocked out the runny nose! I'll be happy when we're down to just that antihistamine. I did find a way to make the nebulizer more palatable. TV! Normally, we don't let him watch much, but it's better than him screaming the whole 15 minutes! In the morning it's easy to find stuff for toddlers, but in the evening, not so much. I've found he likes music videos (kid LOVES music), but last night the only thing besides hip-hop was country (we only have 5 or 6 video channels on digital cable and they all had crap on). Hubby wasn't thrilled, but it kept him mellow until we were done.

I got some good news for myself on Friday. My internist and Billy's pediatrician are married and have their practices in the same building. Friday afternoon when I got home there was a message that my MRI was clear. When I took Billy to the pediatrician, I ran into my doctor so he and I had a quick chat. I was able to tell him that I hadn't had a migraine since last Monday and we were all happy. I just wish I'd start sleeping a little better (and stop having such wacky dreams).

I'm nearly to the neck shaping on the back of my T. Less than an inch to go. I can't wait to cast on for the other parts. I so want to wear this thing and soon. I didn't get a chance to look for the missing Calmer. But, I'll find it!

I cannot buy any more yarn. I rearranged my closet this weekend (put away heavy sweaters and dug out my shorts, not to mention put away 4+ weeks worth of clean laundry) and re-organized that part of my stash. Whoo boy, it's going to take a while to get through it all, especially at my current rate. Since I'm in my early 30s, I don't think I'm at SABLE status, yet, but it won't take long if I don't start stash-busting!

Monday, May 02, 2005

Lots of progress this weekend. Only a few more inches to go and I'll be starting the neck shaping. Then on to the sleeves (I want to go a little faster). Oddly, I must have tucked some of my Calmer away because I went to get a couple of balls out of the bag in my stash and there were only 5 left. I know I haven't used 5 balls!

I bailed

I can't tell you why, I'm not even sure I know why, but I didn't go to Lord & Taylor yesterday to see the Harlot. I think mostly because I just didn't plan it out and it was in the middle of the work day, yada yada yada. So I'm a little disappointed in myself. Especially since I read about how great it was and she was (and there were goody bags).

Still no word from my doctor. Since I've not had a migraine headache since Monday, I'm not too upset about it. Ironic thing last night, my half-sister called me. She gets migraines, too. But, we have the same mom, and mom doesn't get them. Her symptoms are very similar to mine and we both have "irregular" headaches in that they don't follow the same pattern every time.

I've been in the office since before 8 am. The lights were still mostly off on the floor when I got here (and I had to use the stairs because the elevator was still locked on our floor, I walked down from 6 which was open). I plan on leaving a little after 11 so I can get some lunch, grab the noon bus and get B to his Dr's appointment at 1:15. Then we need to pack and get out the door to VT!

Last night I told hubby I felt like I should be cleaning or packing or something to get ready for the trip. As it was he did a load of laundry, I did the dishes, and watched CSI. As it was, he talked me out of bathing the dog. I didn't even knit! I did watch some of Survivor, too. I haven't gotten too into this season, but I've heard it's been a good one.

Let me just say my toy camera stinks! I have to put fresh batteries in it everytime I want to use it. So I did that this morning and got a couple of cute pics of B on a braided rug my Nanny made. Stupid camera wouldn't let me take them out when I hooked it to the USB cord it wouldn't even turn on! AARGH!!! I think I need to talk the hubby into getting a digital camera!

Well, I have a lot to do today and a few meetings this morning before I can get going.

Here's the bind off for the arm holes (this is the right one). We have progress!

Thursday, April 28, 2005

oh yeah

I called my doctor's office. They got the results last night and he's supposed to be calling me about it. Glad I'm feeling better without the results!

My best friend

I really do like my pediatrician, but I don't want her to be my best friend. I'd like to spend time with women doing things other than poking and prodding my son. Billy's right ear has been dripping wax, a sure sign that a child with tubes has an infection. So tomorrow, right before we drive to Vermont, I get to take B to Dr. Maggie and have his ears looked at again. Which is fine, because this cough and snottiness he's had for weeks and for which he's been on meds for weeks (literally 3) has not improved.

what do you do with a snoring husband?

I'd like to put mine in the street so I could get a night's sleep, but I wound up on the couch. He's nearly impossible to wake up once he's a sleep. I don't know how he can sleep so deeply. I'm so exhausted. This is the second night he's done this to me. Woken me up by coming to bed at 2 am (he falls asleep watching TV, I used to call him with the cell and get him to bed at a decent hour) and keeping me up by snoring his ever loving head off. I could close my eyes and drift off right now...

Fortunately, the migraines have tapered off. I still get headaches, but they're not full-blown migraines. I did start getting a little tingly and loopy yesterday, but the meds held it off. I still plan to call my doctor for my results by noon-time. (Everyone keeps calling about the MRI, M-i-L, my mom, my dad's parents called them.)

I've only got one bust increase to finish. Then it's on to the armscyes, or holes, or whatever you want to call them. I went to bed at 9 pm last night and didn't knit at all this morning; the only recent progress was on the bus home, which was good. Too tired to do anything else. Hope I don't nap too much in the car tomorrow afternoon! Must get Air sewn! Nope I haven't touched it!

I think I really should plan to head up to Lord and Taylor this afternoon to by the bookbookbook and have it signed by the Harlot herself!

Wednesday, April 27, 2005

lots of rows

I've nearly completed the bust increases again. Let's hope I don't screw them up some more! I'd love to have the back of my T done before we hit the road Friday.

I knit a lot on the bus and watching TV with Miss Molly last night. (I did give her a bone to distract her.)

I also dyed my hair. I can't really get a good picture. It's much brighter and much redder. Although, no one has noticed.

Hubby got home really late last night. After 2 AM! Then he kept snoring and waking me up! He's lucky I haven't had a headache today! He's not noticed and I'm not going to tell him. Man, am I tired. I've been having progress meetings with my PEs today. Fun, fun, fun. All I want to do is knit more rows and take a nap. I could also use some lunch. Think I'll go eat.

unpredictable

Just when I think I have a handle on my symptoms something goes blooey. This morning I didn't think I was going to make it, but now I feel great. Whereas yesterday started good and ended badly, although having dinner helped quite a bit.

My Onyx Calmer finally came. I got so spoiled with PayPal it was excrutiating to wait for a check to clear! I can't wait to start my own Air. I hope I have enough yarn!

It's just me and the kids tonight. Hubby got free tickets to the Yankee game. I don't know what Billy and I will do for dinner. I do have a feeling I'll be bribing Miss Molly with a yummy bone and trying to get some knitting done. I dug out Mom's Air and started weaving in some ends, but I didn't get too far before Molly wanted her Mommy-pillow. I really, really need to get this jacket seamed before we show up at Mom and Dad's. Then the question will be what are you going to make your other sister? Nothing, because I'm not allowed to buy any more yarn and I don't think I have something in stash for her.

No call from the doctor today. I'd think I would be more upset if today had been a worse day.

This is what I ripped of the T. Rows and rows of it. I have to re-do all of the bust increases. *sigh*

Monday, April 25, 2005

tingly

So of course, I brag about feeling better and I get an aura and singly lips and hands and things. So far, not much pain. I wish I could have slept more last night. Gee it's hard to type in this condition.

Rhiannon rings like a bell through the night....

Stevie's dulcet tones welcomed me to the MRI tube yesterday morning. Steve, the tech, was also there. He made it bareable as well. My doc will have the results tomorrow or Wednesday. Don't know when he'll let me know what's what. I am feeling better though. I've been a little oogy, but no extreme migraines. I'm glad I'm not claustrophobic. I don't know how I would have handled all that time in the little tube if I was.

Pray for treatable results. I think I've turned a corner, but we won't know until we know.

I nearly ripped NBaT. I finished all of the bust increases Saturday and somehow managed to drop some stitches and had to rip all 24 increase rows. I don't know why it's 2 steps forward, 3 steps back with this thing. I wasn't happy with the increseases, but I didn't want to do them over! Oh well, I've got 12+ hours in the car coming up this weekend. I should make some progress. I really, really must put mom's Air together so I can give her and dad their sweaters this weekend. (Mom's birthday is 6 months ago tomorrow!)

I'm really looking forward to seeing the family this weekend. I'm also looking forward to showing off my kid. I can't wait for my parents to see him walking and being his entertaining self. I hope he's not too "strange" with everyone. He's gotten a touch shy.

I'm glad my head's feeling better. I can get more knitting done! (And maybe screw up less!)

I'm me again!

Friday

My assistant manager is out sick. Should I be suspicious since he just gave notice?

I've still got a few rows to go until I get to the bust increaseses for NBaT. I'm still liking it a lot.

Not a whole lot to chat about today. I really have to get my but in gear and get some of these journals caught up. They'll send me back to books!

I go to the hospital Sunday for an MRI. Seems CIGNA won't let me go right to a CT SCAN. Off to Overlook hubby and I go. Hopefully, they'll be able to fix my head. I'm sick of headaches and nausea, and all that other stuff!

We'll be missing church. My appointment is for 9:30.

Thursday, April 21, 2005

Made it yesterday

I gutted it through the whole day yesterday. I can I finish today, too? Hope, so.

Hubby's making noises about we shouldn't go to VT next weekend if my head is still bothering me. 6+ hours in the car is a long time with a migraine, but we haven't been up since August! Guess I just can't get any more head aches.

No to much for news. I do hear that I'll finally get my 2004 bonus next pay period. Netter's getting a new computer!

I don't have a whole lot to chat about today.

It was bigger, but I had a brain cramp that led to my ripping out a few rows. I'll get back to where I was this afternoon. (Assuming my head doesn't hurt too badly!)

Wednesday, April 20, 2005

CT Scan

Guess where I'll be Monday at 9 am. Cranford Diagnotic Center getting my head scanned. A contrast CT of my head and a CT of my sinuses. Maybe they'll be able to figure out what's wrong with my head!

So far, today's been good. But, we're heading into pain time so who knows.

I've just about started the bust increases on my NBaT.

One problem, I can't find my work ID. This poses a slight problem. I need to tear my house apart!

One other problem, my assistant manager is quitting. This is going to be interesting.

Interesting weekend

I had to leave the office early again on Friday. Hubby took me to a urgent care center since my doctor was on vacation and the covering doctor doesn't have office hours. They gave me another shot, but it helped. I was sick as a dog all afternoon. He also prescribed some barbituates. (Phenobarbital) I've been taking them nearly every day since. I'm going to go back to my doctor tomorrow and talk him into sending me to a neurologist or endocrinologist (in case they are hormonal). Eight migraines in a week and a half are TOO MANY. There have only been a handful of days where I've felt good. The drugs my doc gave me and the covering doc gave haven't really helped. I'm glad the barbituates help, but I can't take those forever. My parents are getting concerned that I'm not improving. Hubby says he wants my grumpy self back. And I'd like to read to my son without getting a headache.

I've been doing well with my T. I'm working the 24 rows even before the bust shaping. Hopefully, I'll be able to get the back finished this week.

Billy hit a milestone Saturday. He got his first hair cut. He looks so grown up. He also me our Friends Greg and Ling's baby Dylan. He's 6-months old. He looks so tiny compared to B. Even his feet looks tiny, tiny.

Billy also ate stuffed flounder for dinner last night. That kid will eat almost anything! Hubby and I joke about starting our own fish-baby food line. What better to way to get your kids to like fish than to start em off young?

I met a new knitter on the bus this morning. She was working on a pink and green mercerized cotton baby blanket in a basket weave knit. It was really pretty. I impressed her with my ability to knit and not look. It's her first project. She'll get the hang of knitting without looking eventually.

So far today is going well, head-wise. I've had some pressure but no migraine symptoms yet. It would be nice to get a few days in the office in a row. (Well, tomorrow I have 2 doctor's appointments so I have to leave early. Maybe I can start a streak on Wednesday!)

Finally, my black calmer is on it's way to me. Yippee. Can't have enough of the Rowan Calmer. I really need to start seaming my mom's sweater and put the zipper in Hello Billy. I'll be seeing my mom in 2 weeks. Must finish it. (Especially since it's only 6 months late!)

After. Neat and handsome. So grown up looking, too!

During.

Before, looking a little scruffy.

Friday

Ah. It's Friday. I'm looking forward to spending the weekend with my guys. I'm hopeful I can stay in the office all day again. I have a few meetings scheduled for today and, of course, plenty of catch up work to do (over 400+ invoices to sign off on).

I was pretty productive the last couple of days on my NBaT. Almost finished the waist decreases. I can't wait to wear it. I think I'll be wearing it a lot of this summer.

We had a good chat with Pastor Mac last night. He'll interweave the infant baptism and the adult joining of the church into one seam-less ceremony. We're going to do it Mother's Day. My parents are coming down for it. They're pretty happy that we're doing it. My dad said it was good because kids need to be raised in some faith. Not that they raised us too much that way, but we're happy with our decisions.

Well, those 400+ invoices won't approve themselves!

Wow. That's awfully brown-looking. Here's the latest progress on my T. I'm just finifshing up the last of the waist decreases.

want a real camera

Who could recommend a decent digital (but not too expensive) camera? My stupid toy doesn't work on batteries anymore and I know I wouldn't be able to get hubby to spring for anything too expensive. Suggestions>

trappaning

My assistant manager gets migraines, too. I went into his office to remind him we need to finish a conversation with one of our PEs. He asked me how my head was and told me to just say know if my Dr. starts talking about trappaning my skull for my migraines. I said I might go for it if it helps.

I thought I was going to have to bail again today, but I think I'm going to make it. One Frova and 2 advil migraine later and I don't think I'm going to lose my lunch. Yippee! I can actually survive a migraine! I'm not swearing on my productivity, but I'll be stoked if I make 7 hours in the office today! Must finish tidying the house before Pastor Mac visits tonight. And yes, that is his name! Hubby's going to get some cookies for us while I pick up the Billy.

I hope these migraines are going to go bye-bye. I want my head back!

I also want my 2005 bonus, too. I need a new computer and DSL, like yesterday!

Is it wrong that I like to call my son dude?

It hasn't been easy being me. So far, yesterday was my first day this week without a migraine. I had to leave work right after lunch Tuesday and go to the doctor. She gave me Frova and a shot. Neither of which really helped. In her office, I started getting sick and didn't stop for 6 hours. I wound up in the ER for a few hours getting fluids and anti-nausea medicine. The doc at the ER wouldn't give me any meds to take home. But, I'm doing okay. Poor hubby. Tuesday was bad for him. Billy was very unhappy (screaming the entire time he was home). Hubby was glad to take me to the hospital so Billy could be with Grammy. We both got to sleep in Weds. Poor little guy has a vicious diaper rash and anti-biotic induced diarrhea. Hubby felt like a failure becuase he couldn't make either of us better. I told him that no one was bleeding so he hadn't failed.

Not too much knitting done. I haven't really picked it back up. Hopefully tonight on the bus home.

mini-migraine?

So, by the way the entire left side of my body went tingly and numb, I figured I was in for a doozy of a migraine ast night. Fortunately, I took my Axert pretty early on and the headache was over by 8:30 when I went to bed. The first symptoms started just after 6. I'm exhausted today, but my head never felt like it would explode.

The people my husband works with have him convinced they aren't migraines. They think I should be in the hospital getting tests. So of course, I started freaking out a bit last night with the extreme tingles and numbness in my hand. I should be able to feel my purse when it's in my hand right? What if it is something really bad? Hubby's cousin has MS, what if it's something like that?

I'm going to start to track things and hopefully it will all go away and just be my allergies prompting migraines. If the numbness and stuff doesn't get any better, I'm really going to start to freak out. Last night I almost had hubby take me to the hospital, at his prompting.

I think I'd feel better if my doctor weren't on vacation.

Our pastor is coming down Thursday so we can plan Billy's baptism and our becoming members of the church. Hopefully, I'll feel well enough this week to tidy up!

My NBaT is going well. I just started the waist shaping. I think I'm going to go solid purple. I don't think I'd wear a logo or sweater with contrasting colors as much as a plain one. (Although, I do think about making one with my leftovers.)

I have returned from migraine hell

I felt fine Wednesday morning. Until I had been in a training session for about an hour. Then my hands went numb, then my lips, once I couldn't see the trainer's whole face when looking right at him I knew I was in trouble. I couldn't walk down a flight of stairs. I overshot my floor, actually. It was the worse migraine I ever had. I didn't know what was going on. Hubby to me to the doctor and he gave me pills. They made my stomach worse, but I guess the helped the pain. I think it may have been too late, though. I was fine Thursday, just stayed home to rest. Then it was back at 5 pm. Early bed time for all that night! The Friday and Saturday I was fine, but woke up with another yesterday morning. (Not a good sign when you're whole arm is numb.) But it was gone by dinner time. (Fortunately, Hubby took Billy to church and his mom's so I could rest.) I've been okay most of today, but I'm also popping decongestants and Advil every four hours. Doc thinks my sinuses might be triggering the migraines. I've never had three so close together or three so virulent. I lost 4 pounds though. It's been crazy trying to get back into the swing of things. I had 14 voicemails and over 100 e-mails to wade through.

I spent all that time at home and didn't get much knitting done. Mainly because you can't knit when your head feels like that and I had Billy home with me Thursday and Friday (he's getting over his own thing).

I'm most pissed about missing Lost last week. Don't tell me. One of my colleagues can get it for me. He told me not to read anything about the episode.

Well, still have a few more e-mails to weed through.

Approaching the waist shaping. It's a lovely purple color. Now that it's getting nicer, I may start taking photos with natural light.

More Calmer!

Hubby is going to be MAD!

I stashed again. I actually won an eBay auction for my second non-Zeal 10 pack of Calmer. Onyx baby. I think I may have to knit an Air for myself. (Correction, I don't already have a pack of Zeal Calmer. It's Joy from before Zeal. It's a bit less vibrant than Zeal.) He got really made when he saw the entry for my Sour Calmer in the checkbook. He then apologized because he spends money, too. But he did encourage me to FINISH some projects already.

I made nearly 4 swatches to get gauge on my NBaT. I did 8s on Friday, way too tight. I tried 9s on Saturday, still off. Sunday was 10s and when I measured it this morning it seemed slightly too small. I started one with 10.5s, seemed way too loose (I mean got to find the right shade of purple for a new bra and maybe a purple camisole, got to hide those baby stretch marks). So I checked the 10 again and I think I can make it work. I'll be casting on this afternoon going home.

Yes, I haven't been knitting much. I spend most of my time on the weekends with Billy. And yesterday was rough. I over-indulged at Sunday's Yankee opener. Too many Bass and too little food. Yes, I am over 30, thanks for asking.

Tonight, we have a little celebration for Molly's 3rd birthday (which was yesterday). Hubby or I will go to Dairy Queen for treats for us (after Billy goes to bed, we want to keep his sweets to a minimum) and Molly gets her own Doggy Ice Cream.

Huh?!?

So, somehow, automagically without my intervention, Blogger spit-out yesterday's post.

It makes some of my earlier post redundant and downright unfactual.

Happy April

Big sigh here, I had a great post written yesterday and Blogger ate it and then I was in a meeting for four and a half hours and had no time to recreate.

Mostly, it was about my excitement building up about going to see the Eagles last night. It was a great show. (We had seats and everything.) Of course, it was a cold tailgate. Heaven forbid we have two nice, Spring-like days in a row. But it was fun hanging with our friends.

I also had some pithy and interesting things to say about Angelina (boring hag) and my Nothin' but a T. I have officially put Angelina aside. And started the swatch for my T. I do have to do a bit of math (and print the pattern again), because I always think I'm smaller than I am.

Hopefully, I can cast-on this weekend.

Nothin' but a swatch. But it's Calmer, so it's a loverly swatch!

E-A-G-L-E-S

Not the Iggles who play in Philly, but the legendary rock band performing at the Meadowlands tonight. The weather should cooperate so the tailgate will be good. We're hanging with friends we don't get to see often enough (they live it CT). We've got actual assigned seats. And it's a band we've never seen before. I'm very much looking forward to tonight. Especially since we've been listening to their greatest hits albums and there are a lot of songs I didn't realize belonged to them!

Tomorrow morning might not be so great, but tonight will be fun! Late night + adult beverages might = unhappy Netter.

I am also happy because I've put Angelina and her interminably boring 2 x 2 ribbing aside in favor of swatching for my T. Yummy, yummy Calmer how I have missed you. I need to print out the pattern again and do some math to upsize it. I forgot how endowed (or fat) I was.

Can't wait to really get started on it!

Wonderful Wednesday

I actually lifted the title from CBS2's weather forecast this morning. Dave Price says today is going to be wonderful; low 60s and sunny. Who could disagree?

Hubby and I overslept this morning. By about an hour. Somehow I managed to turn off the alarm without waking up. I made it into work just a few minutes late. Of course, I had to buy breakfast on the way in and didn't have time to pack lunches. Oh well. At least I get to leave on time.

I've finished a few more rows on Angelina. Sleeves are now 6" wide. Only 7.5 more to go. Christmas is sounding more and more like a feasible finishing time. I wish I weren't so darned tired, I'd be able to get more done on the bus.

I did knit a bit last night watching the Amazing Race. Am I the only one really happy that Ray and Deana got eliminated last night? It was just desserts after they didn't even slow down after the boys' accident or give Meredith and Gretchen a few dollars. He annoyed me so much always getting on Deana about her lack of confidence, but he hardly performed any of the roadblocks. Why the heck was she the one eating 4 lbs of meat (gross meat at that)? I'm really happy Gretchen and Meredith weren't eliminated yet. Now, if only Rob and Amber would go away. Even the host seems disgusted by their complete and utter self-absorption.

eh

That's how I'm feeling. Eh. I've got a head cold (I hope it's not allergies with the complementary sinus infection). I'm tired and I want it to be warm.

Okay 'nough whining.

Thank you Lolly and Yarngirl for the compliments on my new 'do.

I don't have much progress to report. I knit about 2 more rows on Angelina. Yippee (dripping with sarcasm). I was just too tired on the last night and this morning. I hope to have it done in time to wear for Christmas.

I did manage to get quite a bit of tidying done around the house last night. Hubby and I are going to see the Eagles with some friends on Thursday. So M-i-L and F-i-L are picking up Billy and walking Molly. M-i-L is spending the night, so I had to clean off the guest bed. Gee, we have more clothes than I thought. I guess letting the clean laundry accumulate on the guest bed for six weeks wasn't such a hot idea.

Hopefully, the rest of they tidying won't take too long tonight and tomorrow so I can actually knit, rest, and put together the project bag for my nothin' but a t-shirt. I want to at least start the swatch on the official kick off of the KAL. Oh and I still need to put the zipper in Hello Billy before the weather gets warm. I hope Billy will be able to wear it!

It's my "Butterfly" hair. A little short, I think, but cute (IMHO) and so much easier! (Hubby is NOT a big fan of the short hair, though.)

Mine. I'm not sure how the color will look, but it's eBay Calmer in something other than Zeal.

Angelina sleeve progress. Nearly 6"!

Easter Monday

We had a good weekend. The concert was a mixed bag. I had a good time hanging with the Hubby (main reason I married the guy, I love spending time with him). The Crowes sounded great. But, the floor of the Hammerstein Ballroom is not the place for this Momma to see a concert. Well, first of all I couldn't "see" a damn thing (I'm average height and it seemed the 6'6" guys were always in front of me). And it was so crowded, we were constantle being jostled and trying to get some breathing space.

Saturday was a lazy day. I did a bit of knitting on Angelina in the car to pick up the kids (yes, even after Billy, we still consider our dog a kid), while reading the paper during Billy's nap and that night watching boxing. The sleeves are over 5 1/2". We also dyed eggs after the boy went to sleep. We figured he wouldn't be all that into it yet. Hubby and I had fun, though. When picking up the kids, we gifted FIL with F-i-L, he loved it.

Yesterday was a long Easter Sunday. Billy was up before 7 and we did the Easter basket. Hubby had picked up this great stuffed bunny that sings and gigles and lights up. Billy loved it. Then we met the in-laws for church. Billy (and my knitting as Dad wore FIL and Mom wore Loll) got lots of compliments. He's such a great kid. Didn't cry much at all and only really babbled during the Hymns. Coffee hour was fun, mainly for the ego stroking and getting to know friends of the in-laws. We're thinking of having Billy baptized at the in-laws church. The new Pastor is really nice and it would be neat to have him baptized at the same placy Hubby was.

After coffee hour, we went back to in-laws and gave Billy lunch, he then took a 3 hour nap. We had a great lamb dinner (yes, this knitter eats lamb) and hung out for a long time. I knit some in the car and did a couple of rows after we got home.

No knitting this morning, I had to stand on the bus. I did stash, however. I got a good deal on 10 skeins of Sour Calmer. I'm thinking Elspeth from Rowan 37 would look great over some tanks this summer.

Oh yeah, I got my hair cut on Saturday. I tried to go with the model's hair from Rowan 37 (Butterfly, Ellspeth), but it doesn't look exactly the same. I think I've got thicker hair!

another NEW layout

Yeah, I changed it again, in case you were like Lolly (Thanks for the compliments) and stopped by to see it an hour ago. I just couldn't take the text issues. I really like the new design. It's so easy when someone else has done most of the work and you're just fiddling with bits!

new template

I like my new look. It's much more "me." But what did I do to the sidebar? Why doesn't it got all the way down the page like it used to? I don't like the text of the posts wrapping under it like they do now. Can anyone help me?

Billy likes Diet Pepsi Twist. Well, he thinks he would like it.

hard to handle

Angelina was left at home today. She's not being punished, but Hubby and I are going to see the Black Crowes at the Manhattan Center and they wouldn't let me bring her in. I did bring Hubby's socks to start casting on this morning, but napped instead. Oh well.

I'm really looking forward to seeing the Crowes tonight. They're all Hubby's played for a month. I think it should be a good, raunchy (not in the degrading sense of the word) show. They're grungy and visceral. The way a rock band should be.

Billy and Molly are spending the day and night with their grandparents tonight. Daycare is closed for Good Friday and M-i-L just figured it would be easier if she took them home and they stayed with her and F-i-L overnight. No problem. Mommy gets to sleep in tomorrow. Which is good. I'm sure Hubby and I will over indulge tonight.

I've already started to overindulge. I went into Duane Reade this morning to try to find a Cadbury Cream Egg (caramel cream) but didn't see any. Instead I got a bag of the caramel kisses. Oh my. I've eaten about half already. Wait, you didn't think I was imbibing already did you? Now really. I may drink in the morning at football tailgates and Yankee Opening Day (but not this year because ESPN's made it Opening Night), but my job's better now so I can get by without "medicating." (Just joking. And yes, I'm allowed to joke about alcoholism. I'm ACoA.)

I so desperately want to buy some new yarn. I just like to aquire. And there's so much out there. I do have a bid in on some Calmer. Amazingly, in a color other than Zeal. The auction goes until tomorrow, so my hopes aren't too high. I'm sure I'll be outbid. But, I refuse to pay close to retail on eBay. If I'm going to pay retail, I'll support a LYS or one of the great online shops.

Well, I've got things to do. Have a good weekend and a Happy Easter (if it's your thing).

FIL is not yet with F-i-L

Because of the SNOW and traffic last night, we didn't have a birthday dinner for my Father-in-Law, so FIL is still at my house. He'll be gifted tomorrow or Sunday.

Where art thou Spring?

So, it took a looong time to get home last night. And I knit on Angelina. I watched the CSI repeat last night. And I knit on Angelina. I watched the new CSI:NY (I really, really want to like this show but just can't get into it). And I knit on Angelina. All told, I knit on Angelina for over 3 hours yesterday. I have about 2 inches more than here. This is going to take forever.

Work is hellish today. I've been putting off some major clean-ups and it's biting me in the behind today. But, that's okay. Fixing problems and getting publications back on track is my forte. I just need to buckle down and get them moving.

So what am I doing here?

Wednesday, March 23, 2005

The dark blob on the wrapping paper, that's FIL. He's done (stick a fork in him).

FIL est finis!

I finished FIL at 10:50 last night. After Blind Justice was done (first episode I've seen and it was pretty good, I LIKE Ron Eldred), I took it downstairs to show the Hubby. I had him try it on, too. It was a little snug, which is fine, because F-I-L is a little thinner than Hubby. I hope the length is okay. F-I-L is 6' even and the vest is about 26" long. Seemed okay on Hubby, who's got the right length torso, just shorter legs.

FIL is the "Oregon" vest from Oat Couture. I bought it at elann after a suggestion from the KnitList (which I subscribed to for about a week, how do people have the time?). I knitted it with some Phildar Avioraz (acrylic, wool and mohair). I think it took 11 skeins? I'll have to double-check. Since the yarn is long since discontinued, I guess it doesn't really matter. I lengthened the pattern 2 inches and got gauge on the recommended needle size. I used Bates Quicksilver circs. It was a quick, quick knit. I would have had it finished a month ago if I'd had the zipper on hand and not been intimidated about putting the zip in. I wrapped it up this morning and he'll be gifted tonight.

I actually enjoyed picking up and knitting the stitches for the arm bands. I didn't worry about getting the "right" number of stitches (esp. since I lengthened the armholes an inch). I just followed the guidelines in here and it was a snap.

Angelina is back in regular rotation. I got about a row done this morning. I just had to take a nap on the way in. I couldn't keep my eyes open. Too many lates night staying up with FIL, the sweater not the man. It's nice to be knitting again and not finishing. Although, I wouldn't put finishing FIL as one of the circles of Knitter's Hell.

Overstitching

I think I like hand stitching in zippers. It’s slow and tedious, but whenever I’ve machine sewn a zipper, I didn’t like the feeling of not having control over what I was doing and I didn’t get great results. I definitely have control now! I’ve got to finish overstitching the left side of the zipper and the zipper is done. I should definitely have that finished on the bus home tonight. Then I get to pick 90+ stitches for the armholes. It seems unproductive to pick-up 90+ stitches, knit a row, then bind off. Obviously, the armholes need finishing (and a bit of tightening up), but all that work to knit one row?!?

I lost out on a huge lot of Rowan Cotton Glace on eBay last night. It wound up going for $6 a ball (not including shipping), but I couldn’t log in with our sickly PC at home to up my bid. It was the most lovely shade of red and I spent much time yesterday fantasizing about the tops from Rowan 37 I could make with it. Oh well. If I really want to make something in red cotton glace, I can buy 6-7 balls and do it. (At $7-$8 a ball it seems like a bargain over Calmer’s regular retail pricing!)

All of my stitch marker supplies came last night. I couldn’t wait to rip open the packages and fondle them. Not quite as fun as a box of yarn, but I’m looking forward to being creative with them. I realized that the holes in my ceramic beads are too large for the head pins I bought. I need spacer beads! Ah, I will cannibalize some broken bracelets, headbands and necklaces. Stitch markers galore. Now, to find the time....

finishing FIL

I've not made much progress on Angelina. I was so sick on Friday that I actually got car sick (bus sick?) trying to knit on the way home. I carried her bag around with me all weekend, but didn't pick her up at all. Good thing I'm not in a hurry, huh?

I am in a hurry on FIL. I sat down with him last night to put the zipper in. The zipper is basted in and one side has been back-stitched. Unfortunately, some of my stitches are large and noticeable so I may need to re-do it. But, he's my commute buddy until he's done. F-i-L's birthday is Wednesday and they're coming down for dinner. I must finish by Wednesday afternoon.

Ooh, FO pics this week.

I was kind of disappointed to remember that Friday isn't April 1. I have a week and a half before the start of the Nothin' but a T-shirt knitalong. I really, really want to get started. I guess I could always seam Air to get my Calmer fix between then and now (since I'll be seeing my mom in a month and her birthday was five months ago, maybe I should finish it).

Does anybody remember this episode of CSI? Well, sometimes life imitates art. Not too many details, yet.

I feel so poorly-travelled!

Angelina ad nauseum

I was going to post a picture of my progress on Angelina, but it's an inch and a half more of the 2 x 2 ribbing. I don't want to bore you. That, and I couldn't get a decent snap. I haven't gotten much done the last two days. The bulk of what I've completed since Wednesday's photo was completed Wednesday afternoon on the bus in a traffic jam. Ask and ye shall receive! I was hoping to knit the last few nights watching tv with the Hub, but Molly's been super cuddly. It's hard to knit with 60 lbs of bully love on your chest! She did snuggle with me feet last night so I got to knit a couple of rows watching season 1 of Cheers on DVD.

I'm really looking forward to getting my beads and supplies in the mail. Now, to find time and a place to do the work!

I'm not feeling very well this morning. And no, it's not from too much green beer. My tummy is just not happy. I should have stayed home in bed. I do feel better than on the subway platform earlier. I had to back way up from the edge because I felt like I was going to pass out. Good thing I got seats on the bus and subway this morning.

I want to thank the woman who moved her bag, but not her fancy-shmancy high-heeled, calf-length boots so I could sit down. It must be hard having such long shapely legs that you have to constantly keep them crossed, even if it means taking up more than your share of space. I should apologize for interrupting her perusing of the wall street journal in her fuschia lipstick.

Thursday, March 17, 2005

Hrm. I was impatient. Re-posting the chickens.

And the best, the Bully beads. Four of these, two in each color. Love me the bullies!

Bats are cool. Getting 10 of these. Think I'll make little stitch markers, for socks and things.

okay, I did it

I ordered wire, head pins, and about $30 worth of beads to create my own stitch markers. My favorites are some ceramic bullies (but I also got a couple ceramic chickens for those KIP projects, some bats, and some other animals that are going to be a surprise). Watch, I'll wind up needing plain little beads and have to do more acquiring. Oh the woe that will be craft shopping! (Good thing I already have some pliers and wire cutters, huh? I bet I could even find a use for hubby's Dremel rotary tool.)

beads, beads, beads

I'm currently enamoured of beads. I want to make my own stitch markers. I've found some really great beads on eBay and now only need to figure out how to get started. Like what to use for wire when I can't use a head pin. Do I really need to use jump rings, etc. I've never beaded in my life so this could be fun! It could also be something else I don't find time for but buy, buy, buy for. Yes, I am acquisitive. I've been good about not buying any yarn (I last stashed in February, Hubby's sock yarn does not count), but the knitting accessories still get me (stitch markes, ball winder, swift).

I was digging around in my closet for something green to wear and realized that I have a lot of yarn. Seriously, it's spilling out of the closet, it's under the bed, it's in the basement. When I come across something I've forgotten about, it's like a little present. Ooh, I remember that orange Kid Classic. Someday, I'll make a nice cardi out of it. Ooh, there's the Magpie Aran.

Billy does not like his sneakers. We put them on him and he thought they were okay. Then we stood him up. He freaked out. I don't know if he's ready for real shoes, yet. He's not that good a walker. They were a suggestion from day care. They've been taking the kids outside and Billy has trouble walking on the ground cover (rubbery mats) in his slippers. I'd let him run around inside barefoot if it weren't so darned cold all the time. (I've read it's best for balance and foot development to keep them out of shoes until they are walking well.) He's a pretty adaptable kid, I'm sure he'll get used to them. I'm just worried that he'll regress and go back to crawling all the time.

Our biggest concern with the kid, right now, is his speech. I know it's not been that long since his last visit to the doctor, but we're still not getting words. I know I shouldn't stress and he's going to be fine. But, what mom doesn't want everything to be perfect for her child?

We're all wearing green today. It's the only day of the year that my husband will admit to his Irish heritage. My dad's family's always figured they were Irish, too. I grew up in a very Irish area and it's strange for me here to see so few people wearing green. I always think of NY as so Paddy crazy (esp. with the parade), I forget how diverse it truly is!

300 stitches

I've got 300 stitches (give or take) on the needles for Angelina. If I'm fast, I get a couple of rows done each way on the bus. It's almost enough to make me wish for a traffic jam! At this row gauge and this rate of finishing rows, I figure I'm going to be knitting Angelina for a straight month before I start decreasing.

You can be sure that I will be dropping her like a hot potato come April 1 to start my Calmer T. Two weeks from Friday. Yummo.

Got my Rowan 37 and my Freda kit last night. I love the blue Cork, but not for me. I bet I can find a pattern for Billy and use the 4 skeins for him. I just don't love myself in blue. However, when I start stashing again, you better believe I'll be keeping an eye out for some Cork. I love Rowan yarns. Too bad I won't be going back to England for work. Anyway, there are a few patterns I love in the mag. Mostly Martha, Heirloom, Hike, Pearl (sans beads), Trek, Elspeth and the shorter Butterfly. Of course, I don't know when I'd ever wear Butterfly, but it's so pretty! I do think my favorite part of the mag is the model for Butterfly's hair. I want to cut mine like that. I think it's a little too short for hubby, though. It would be perfect for summer with Buckets galore!

This is going to be a sleeve, this is going to be a sleeve, this is going to be a sleeve. I hope if I keep repeating it, I'll start to believe it. I can see why Yarngirl was worried!

April 1? Please?

I nearly started my nothin but a t shirt this weekend. I bone-headedly left the pattern for Angelina in the office so I couldn’t work on her and I didn’t think I had the needles to do retro rib socks for Hubby. What was I going to knit in the car on the way to AC? But, I did find a different pattern for hubby socks. Nice, plain, and only needing 4 needles. (My smaller dpns were inherited from my grandmother and when she bought them they only came in sets of 4.) So I cast on a swatch. I’m still knitting it. How do people churn out socks? This gauge is so tiny! (See many, many rows dwarfed by a giant thumb below.)

I did get all of the seaming done for FIL yesterday. I just need to do the armhole and put in that zipper. I must say, I am afraid of the zipper! Soon as I gird my loins, I may have another FO! (Shortly thereafter, I’ll finish Hello Billy, too. At this rate it won't fit him.)

I’m going to work on Angelina most of this week. See if she gets too big to be bus-able. Yarngirl’s mentioned in my comments and her latest entry that she’s concerned the sleeves are too short. I can’t blame her, I’ll be adding 17 stitches and it looks like it wouldn’t cover my son’s arm! I do think that the lace and some blocking to unkink the ribs will help. I won’t mind if it’s not too long, though!

Closer photo of the cast on stitches for the sleeve. I've finished two sets so far (only one more set and 13 inches to go to casting them back off).

Here's Angelina. I probably won't really post today. I've been out a bit this week with the weather and a sick boy. I'm just swamped.

High road, an icy high road

I'm going to take the high road and not whine about my commute home (or daycare closing early). I had a lot of knitting time, got home in time to make turkey meatloaf for dinner, and spent more time than normal with Billy.

(Note to self: whenever you even think that you don't spend enough time with Billy, something happens to make sure you do!)

In housework news, I'm keeping up with the kitchen and got the vacuuming done. That which I am not going to whine about (including a fussy kid) made me think of lumping the housework all together, but I persevered. To reward myself I spent another half-hour with Angelina and some quality time with a glass of Portugese Red. Ah.

Billy cracks up whenever I take out my little toy camera. Don't you wish you could be this happy at 6 am?

Angelina has nearly reached 9". Next time you see her, I'll have started the sleeves! Yay progress! This is what happens when you have an EXTENDED bus ride do to icy roads!

What do you think? Would this be good for my t-shirt? (I didn't think Bleached or Zeal would be good.)

knitting loner

I'm usually a knitting loner, but I had to join Nona's Nothin but a tshirt knitalong. I have Calmer in stash and love, love, love Alison's design. I've added it to my paltry list of alongs.

Molly likes to share Billy's cheerios (or whatever he's eating). He's not so sure he wants her on his tray.

Domestic Goddess*

I found a new way to pique Hubby's interest: clean! I scoured the bathroom last night and did more dishes. Nice to have at least part of the house be clean. I'll vacuum tonight.

I have to confess, I made myself a little schedule and hung it up in one of the kitchen cupboards. Monday is the bathroom, Tuesday and Friday I vacuum (since Molly sheds considerably twice a week is necessary), Wednesday is dusting (something light for LOST night), and Thursday is mopping. Whew. Sundays remain laundry days and I reserve Saturdays for big projects (like decluttering my craft area, cleaning the fridge or oven, organizing closets, etc.).

Must get the husband to help me keep clutter down.

In knitting news, I'm still eeking along on Angelina. I'll wait and post another picture when I start casting on the sleeves.

Last night's commute home was quick. It wasn't until I was on the bus this morning that I remembered they removed the tolls on the GSP southbound at the Union plaza. No more parkway back-ups!

superwash, not superdry

So, I put Purlwise in the wash this weekend, to fluff her up and get rid of some of the ladders. Forgot to tell hubby to take her out before he put the clothes in the dryer. She shrunk. She still fits around my head (and boy is she soft now), but she doesn't cover my ears anymore. I was thinking I'd put some ear flaps on her (I am part hick you know), but I think I'll try blocking her first.

Not too much knitting progress to report. I did a little bit on Angelina, but nothing much else. I do have to get FIL off the finishing pile. F-I-L's b-day is just about 2 weeks away!

I'm trying to start a little knitting group here in the office. I actually posted signs in the kitchens on our three floors. I've gotten one call so far. I feel like such a geek!

I'm also trying to be more domestic. I was up early this morning and in the shower at 4:45 (couldn't sleep and Billy started to wake up but went back to sleep). I'm all caught up on the dishes and hope to tackle the bathroom tonight after Billy goes to bed. I'm hoping that if I break the house down into parts and do a part a day, I'll have a cleaner house. I've really been disgusted lately. And that's saying a lot! I have a high dirt threshold! Any suggestions would be welcome!

Molly wants to say hi, too.

Here's Angelina at nearly 6 inches.

Billy says good morning!

purlwise on my head

Could you guess Purlwise was a hat? The specs are: Gedifra Living in color 5101 (bought on sale at Herrschners.com); size 7 bamboo dpns. Gauge is tight, but I like my hats dense. I used the slipped stitch ribbing from Loll in the Calmer Collection and based the pattern on the Harlot's rolled brim hat recipe. I did have to modifiy the decreases to take my ribbing into account. I think if I make another one, I'll start the decreases earlier and put more rows between them. I'd like it to lie a little flatter.

I really like it. I think it makes me look very different. Hubby's not so sure he likes it. It's not my usual sweater and khakis deal.

So here's me and purl.

Am I the only one wondering

what Hurley was doing in a mental institution in the first place?

I must say I love LOST and I found quite a bit of black humor in last night's episode (intended or not I liked it). Unfortunately, watching tv in my bedroom is not conducive to knitting (no back support).

I have very little progress to report on living (and I haven't touched Angelina since Monday, do go see yarngirl's start on her Angelina).

I did get some stuff in the mail today. The yarn will be easy to explaing to Hubby (he TOLD me to buy it and it's for him), the swift, not so easy. Maybe I should sneak it home!

In other tv news, I find myself being sucked into Alias against my will. I really don't need anymore tv shows to watch and I'm coming into it late, but I find I can't stop watching it. I think it's inertia. I'm just glued to the spot after LOST.

Look what else arrived today. My swift!

The yarn came for Hubby's green socks. Guess I'll have to swatch and cast-on soon.

It feels like 26 degrees F outside. In here, it's June! 79.8 if you can't read the photo. Hence, the tank (just don't tell HR).
Does this look like a March forecast to you? It doesn't to me! Posted by Hello

He's a walking dude

That's right, my baby boy has taken his first steps. Monday, about 2 minutes before my husband got home he took four steps not holding onto anything! He's done it a few times since, but won't do it if we have the video camera out.

Little booger, much as I love him, woke me up at 4:20 this morning. Mommy's tired! I also had to stay home with him yesterday because daycare closed for 7" of snow. Cowards!

So what did I do while he napped for 2 1/2 hours yesterday morning (but not at all in the afternoon)? Besides making a few phone calls, I did what you see below. It's a little something I concocted myself. It's in Gedifra Living (100% superwah wool) in a lovely tomato-red.

I loved that slipped-stitch ribbing when I was knitting the Loll cardi last summer and Zipo this winter (hem and cuffs) and decided to do the whole piece that way. Of course, I realized after the fact that I wouldn't have to PURL the whole thing if I knit in the round with the inside-out!
New project. I'm calling it living purlwise, because it's purled in the round. After I was 2 inches in I figured out how to get the slipped stitch ribbing knitting in the round. 'S okay. I like to purl (goofy me). Posted by Hello
