toe will commence

this evening, or whenever I pick up the sock again. If you look closely, you will see I've completed one more color repeat.

Cece has made negative progress. It's not her fault she's shorter, now. I'm the one knitting the wrong lace rows in the wrong places.

stashing the blues

Yeah, I bought more blue sockyarn. For some reason I was expecting the cascade to be fixation, although, it's clear from the site that it's not. Oh well. It's not quite what I wanted for Yankee socks, but it will make someone nice socks someday. In the upper-right is Regia Surf cotton. That will now be Yankee socks (and I have enough for lots of pairs). The Lily Chin Gramercy is going to be dyed and a lovely pair of DK socks. May wait to see what my KSKS partner likes before final disposition is made.

Still chugging along. Got about one inch to go till I start the toe decreases. Cece is getting about 4 rows longer everyday (each row is nearly 200 stitches). Soon, I will be starting the sleeves. I'll post a pic of that.

I'm so excited. My mom and dad are visiting this weekend. They haven't been down since April. Can't wait for them to see our little man. Wouldn't you want to share this?

KSKSwap

I decided to go for it and signed up.

tequila sunrise

Look what came in the mail for me on Friday!
Cygknit was my swapper. Didn't she do a great job? Perfect colors for me. Plus, she included some Lindt chocolates. Little sheepy-shaped milk chocolates and one of my favorite white chocolate truffles. No, they didn't make it to the pic. You know you're swapper's been reading your blog when she can tell you what the answer to a meme was from ages ago (I was a tequila sunrise on that cocktail meme way back when).
These skeins went out to my swappee on Saturday. Colors seem pretty accurate. Hope she likes them! I also (well, Hubby and B) mailed out the stockings which I seemed to have neglected to photograph.
My newest sock is going along. I'm in the middle of the slog to the toe. And I did manage a couple of more rows on Cece. I've started the v-neck shaping. A lot of housework was done this weekend (my parents are visiting and we'd reached our dirt-threshold anyway), so not much knitting.

I think I'm going to sign up for another along, Knit Sock Kit Swap. I figure I should have plenty in stash...

shh, don't tell okay

I extended my lunch hour by a few minutes so I could finish up the heel. (Hey, if I'm taking home 2+ hours of work, I can take 10 minutes for a sock.) I've got a little round candle stuck in the heel. Kind of feels like it's looking at you, huh?

blue period, black comedy

Blue period, because it's still the socks and we had blue sky this morning. Comedy, because I've been knitting along thinking this sock looks so big. But, when I tried it on I could barely squeeze my foot into it! Check out the itty-bitty eyelets from k1 yo k1 into one stitch.
The in place afterthought heel is a bit fiddly to get going, but I think we're all going to get a kick out of the "bulls eye" effecct from the stripes. Thanks for all the compliments gals, but you know it's all the yarn. I really like the strato stripes, too. I've got three other colorways at home!

blues before and after...

I get the blues before and after knitting you (forgive me Pat Dinizio).... That's the theme song to my Project Spectrum June project. The yarn is shadows and light Regia Strato I got from Elann a week ago. I actually started thinking of this song in reference to these socks because I can't tell if the really dark stripe is black or blue so I was thinking that there was blue before and after.

Yesterday morning, when I couldn't open blogger, much less post, they looked like this.

Today, after lots of commuter knitting (Cece is my at home knitting), they look like this. Tonight, I start the heel. New technique alert, in-place afterthought heel. (The pattern is the welt chevron sock, sans welts, from Sensational Knitted Socks.)

long time, no blog

I can't believe I've not blogged since May 26. Over a week.

Let's see if I can sum up:

Had a great time with the in-laws
Spent a haggard three-day week at work
Fun, baseball-filled weekend in Baltimore with the Hubby
Back to the haggard work thing

However, my last Herrschners order arrived. The colors are a bit wilder on the fluo (white with neon ribbon wrapped around is best way to describe) and the peach cotton cashmere is a bit more khaki. But I'll use them, eventually. I may wait until I know a baby girl before I do anything with the fluo.

Hubby's father's day gift also arrived. That was quick I only ordered it Thursday.

Billy broke my heart this morning. He woke up and cried and cried for Grammy. I think it's the first time I've not been able to comfort him (except, obviously, when I've pissed him off). I nearly cried myself. Guess Hubby and I need to be home a bit, hmmm?

I know it's June and it's supposed to be about blue, but I took this back and May and just took it off my camera today. I'm so glad we bought those washable markers.

Actually, I'll have some blue this week. I need to re-skein my dyeorama yarn and get that out. I'll also be FO'ing a couple of non-blue things. Including stockings (finished the knitting last night) and the beach jacket.

when in doubt, stash

I'm not doubting anything, but isn't that a great title?

So, instead of pushing through the slog yesterday, I did a little shopping. I bought an apron pattern for my sister's shower gift.

I also hit the yarn sale at Herrschners and got these:

enough of each to make myself a tank.

Then elann put up some new regia strato. I just had to have these:

Good thing Hubby and I've reversed that little cash flow problem we'd been having.

Have a great Memorial Day weekend everyone. We're spending it celebrating MiL's parents' 65th wedding anniversary. Lots of her family coming in to town. Should be fun.

dye-o-rama

I dyed my last two dye your own skeins last night. Here's a sneak peek. The one on the left is the self-striping. The one on the right I hand painted after I realized how much green and purple I had left and just had to dye. The colors are kool-aid hit with a bit of food color for depth. My grocery store didn't have any green kool-aid left so the green is 1 packet lemonade with about 1/2 packet blue lemonade and a squirt of green food color. Me likey. The blue one the left is two and a half packets of blue lemonade with a couple of drops of food color for depth. The blue on the right is blue food coloring mixed with equal parts water and vinegar. I'm going to overdye the hand painted one tonight. Too much white. I'm going to make a lighter blue and just microwave the whole thing in a dish.

Knitting on stocking 1 will be completed today (I'm thinking of going out for lunch and getting a real burger and taking it with me for the waiting). I hope to cast on for #2 this evening. But, probably not. I imagine I'll get too sucked into the finale of LOST.

all legs all the time

I have decided to work exclusively on the stockings, just to get them done. I'm at the last set of increases before I do the top band. Whew. This has taken a while. I hope to cast on for the second on this week and make some progress over the long weekend. I still might make my goal of mailing by 5/31 (shh, don't disrupt the delusion).

If I'm up to it. I want to do my second dyeorama attempt tonight. (I'm not really feeling the need to watch the Yankees get pounded again.) We've got a busy weekend coming up and we're going away the following weekend (going to Baltimore to watch the injured and lackluster Yankees). Then we're getting awfully close to mail day!

great weekend, meh Monday

We had a great weekend. I did much knitting on CeCe. I'm really enjoying it. She was great company on the beach Saturday and didn't get nearly as sunburned as I did. I have since realized that I misread the chart. In row 6, I've been K2tog when I'm supposed to be ssk and vice versa. Oh well.

Work's still a slog, my kid is even cuter than before, and I wish I were still on Wildwood's wide beaches.

all quiet on the sisterly front

Which isn't necessarily a good thing. I'm glad no one's called to guilt me or ream me out, but she's usually kind of chatty and sends me funny e-mails. Especially in response to the daily Billy pics I send out. I guess I just need to give her time to get over her hurt.

It's pretty quiet on the knitterly front. I'm making some progress on the stockings on the commute, but haven't touched CeCe or anything at home since Monday. I've been bringing work home the last two days and that means no knitting time.

I will not be bringing work home tonight. I need to tidy up, do a little laundry, and pack for a weekend away with the Hubby. We're going down to Wildwood on the Jersey shore for a little get away. Billy and Molly are staying with the in-laws (we're taking Billy for a family vacation this summer). So, as long as I can stay awake in the car tomorrow, I've got a couple of hours to catch up on CeCe and the green aran. And then there will be knitting time on the beach (or in the room if the weather's crappy). I so need this weekend to re-charge and re-connect with the spouse.

disappointment

I hate being the one who brings disappointment. After much agonizing, I confirmed, in no uncertain terms (I'd been trying to leave myself hedge room to see if we could make it work) that Billy would neither be attending her wedding in October nor would he be her ring bearer. I'm heartbroken that she's disappointed.

Tuesday, May 16, 2006

what have I been up to?

Starting in the upper right and moving clockwise:

I cast on for CeCe Saturday afternoon, 241 stitches (I added four repeats to make up for my plus-sizedness). I finished my errands before Hubby did and went to work while I waited for him to get home so he could take me to watch the Devils prevent themselves from being swept (nice anniversary celebration for us). I've finished one full repeat, working during TV time Saturday, Sunday and Monday. I've had to tink back a couple of rows for not paying attention and not fully executing those sl k2tog psso in the 6th row of the chart. I didn't realize it until I was working the 8th row. I'm enjoying it though. This is going to be a great little sweater.

The stockings are moving along well. I moved to the circs last night. I need to measure my leg to see how long this is supposed to be before the increases. I hope to have them both stockings done and in the mail by the end of the month.

This lovely skein was my Mother's Day gift to myself. I've been wanting to start my dyeorama project, but hadn't had the chance. I went with an extremely low-tech warping solution (three dining room chairs lined up) and used three shades of kool-aid. I've got a few things to work on. I was going for a solid stripe (immersed) followed by a more splotchy stripe (painted) then the solid and a different splotch. The purple splotches broke into pink, blue and some purple. The green splotches barely show and my blue solid is way lighter than I had hoped for. Obviously, I really screwed up the purple (was the yarn too wet or too dry). I used too much water on the green stripes and should have made a more concentrated dye bath for the blue (which was immersed not painted). It's pretty, but not what I was expecting. Can't wait to try again.

some salsa to brighten my mood

So, I took Yarngirl's advice from yesterday's comments and bought a pattern to jump start the knitting mojo. I'm going to knit ChicKnit's CeCe in some TLC Cotton Plus I've had in my desk for a while. I was going to use it for The Perfect Sweater that was being Future Searched over at Mason Dixon, but that pattern hasn't come along, yet. I've got 12 balls, which is enough yardage for a CeCe and a Chickami (12 x 186 = 2232 yards). I will be lengthening the body some. The current length is just enough to highlight one of my figure flaws. Now, to find the needles.

In other news, I've worked a little bit on the Lolita Legs re-do. I'm just about done with the toe and will start the patterning today at our lunch-time stitch. We were going to go outside today, but the wet weather means we're in the kitchen again.

I've got so many WIPs right now: Nattie's socks (being the oldest); Billy's Beach Jacket; Hubby's Green Aran; Lolita Legs; Billy's Pumpkin socks and those two things on "hiatus." I'm thinking the Tucker mat might never be finished (seed stitch intarsia in linen?), but I do plan on finishing Angelina. I really want her to be my Christmas sweater this year.

blah-di-blah-blah

It's gray and dreary today, but we haven't had appreciable rain in NJ in a while. Our cars have a slight green overcast. I'm in the midst of some serious knitting blahs. I nearly finished the second Billy sock yesterday, but I ran out of yarn. I was thinking I'd just do the toes on both socks in white, but have decided that would be yucky. I think I'll re-start toe-up and maybe he'll wind up with some short socks. I didn't knit at all last night once I got home. I put B to bed and just vegged with the tube. I brought in the lolita legs stuff to re-start those, but I'm not too excited about the prospect. I don't want to be knitting the green aran or Billy's beach jacket. I don't want to knit socks with my new sock yarns. I can't think of a darn thing in my stash I want to knit, but I can't justify buying new yarn because I'm blah.

Thanks for the support on my decision regarding the meds. You all know how to say the right things. Hubby tries to say the right things, but it usually comes out wrong. And lately, that means I wind up offended. Not easy living with me these days.

Next weekend, Hubby and I go down the shore sans Billy for a few days. Hopefully the weather will be nice. A short break from work and mommy would be great. Of course, a short break from wife wouldn't be too bad, either.

it's not easy being (or knitting) green

So, I didn't touch the green aran all weekend. But, I have done a few rows. You can definitely see progress on the second repeat.

Instead, I started these on Saturday. First one was technically cast on Friday night, but the gauge was tighter than I had calculated for, so I ripped and re-started Saturday. I got it finished Saturday night. The second's been lollygagging around since Sunday morning.

Work's been super-stressful and I find I'm not dealing well with things at home. So, although I told my doc last week that I was doing fine off the prozac, I've put myself back on. I wasn't liking the person I was becoming and the kind of mother she was. Feeling like you're going to fly apart at any moment is not a good feeling.

and it's slow-growing grass

Not much knitting done yesterday. I spent a lot of my commute ripping out a row and a half because I thought I knew what the next row of the pattern was going to be and I was wrong. Oh well. I don't think I'll get much done this weekend. I'm not really feeling the love for this thing. I'm nearly done the first repeat of the large motif and the picture on the model shows I only have to do five more. I need to check the body length to see if it will be okay for Hubby's disproportionately long torso. Good thing I don't have to finish this in May.

I am thinking about starting something less mindful. We're going to support our community theater group tonight, even thought they're putting on Aida and we didn't really like it on Broadway, we're going to go for at least the first half and I wish I had something stockinette that I could just cruise through. But, I really should cast on for my sister's second stocking, now that I have her feedback (needs a plain bottom to the foot).

like watching grass grow

Here's my progress on the green aran. All those cables cables crossing every right-side row sure slows me down. But, so far Hubby's very pleased with it. He wasn't quite sure why I was working on that when his mom's birthday is coming before St. Paddy's day (we won't mention that I've never been late with a knitted gift for his parents). I explained that May is Green and that's why. Here's a closer look at some of the cables.

Wednesday, May 03, 2006

Cabling began

last night after I ironed some shirts for Hubby and while watching NCIS and Blow Out. No, I don't usually watch those two things. I don't have regular Tuesday viewing, but the Yankees were rained out in Boston.

.... and Hello May

Here is the first two inches of ribbing for Hubby's Green Aran. Yeah, I know, very original. I'll start the cabling tonight. I worked a little bit on the boy's beach jacket, but still a ways to go. I'm still not 100% sure what the edging is going to be. Great thing about top-down, it's easy to replace the edging.

I got my dye-o-rama partner today. She doesn't seem to particular color-wise. She sure does love knitting socks!

goodbye April (well not quite)

I finished the broadripples last night. I'm wearing them today. They're very snuggly and bright. I think I need to go down a size and cast on more stitches in the future. I also need to figure out how to eliminate ladders when working on DPNs. Any suggestions? (I keep meaning to look in my sock books, but I'm so brain fried when I get off the bus that it doesn't happen.) I definitely recommend the Cascade fixation. Next time, I'm going even shorter on the leg. I like little crew socks for the summer.

Don't worry Anny, you can still get your orange fix here. I'm not yet done the boy's beach jacket. One more sleeve and some edging, but I'm so bored with it. Maybe I'll be able to finish the second sleeve tonight while watching the Yankees and Red Sox.

I am very excited to start Hubby's Green Aran (have to come up with a better name, I'm thinking Kelly). I might be crazy, though, knitting a seed stitch and cabled sweater in 100% cotton. My hands might hate me before I finish. Or maybe not, swatching wasn't a problem yesterday and I'll have to knit on the wedding stockings anyway. And maybe some other socks.

Ooh, got my knitpicks order for the dyeorama swap this weekend. Hubby wasn't thrilled with my spending money (he's not getting paid again until next Friday and things are getting a wee bit tight), but I'm excited to get my swappee and start planning the dyeing! I've already got kool-aid for the colorways I want to do, but i'll wait on those until I know I can do the colorway that my swappee wants.

a smidgen of content for my friends who get as bored as I do on Friday afternoons

This post title is going to be longer than the post. Just wanted to say I love my lunchtime knit group. We're up to 5 knitters now and we have a blast. I hate to go back to work when the hour is up. Finished the gussets on broadripple #2. Have a great weekend, see you Monday.

pumpkin ripple

So, the broadripples have become the commute knitting of choice.

I put them in my bag Wednesday morning and the looked like this. Then I ripped out a few rows because I'd messed up the pattern. I kept chugging along and was at the start of the heel flap by the time I got home Wednesday night (I'm patting myself on the back for liking shorter socks, 4" legs are quick knits). I turned the heel last night and I've gotten most of the way through the gussets. (I didn't nap on the way in this morning.)

We're knitting in Father Fagan Park this afternoon (so long as it's warm enough), so I should be able to get from here (posing with it's completed, fraternal twin) to finished by the end of April.

The beach jacket is progressing. One sleeve finished the other one ripped and re-begun. I'm thinking I should be able to get most of that done this weekend as well. Except the zipper. I don't have a long enough zipper in the house and don't know when I'll be able to pick one up.

I'm looking forward to starting my May project. My sister's excited to get her first try on of the completed Lolita leg. Hopefully, I can get the second one knitted up next month.

I'm also very excited to get my swap match next week. I've ordered yarn from Knitpicks which should be coming soon. They said it mailed on Tuesday. I ordered three skeins of dye your own. One for me (going to try a red gradient thing) and one for the swap, and one in case I mess up the first swap skein!

Just doing some Spring Cleaning

Today's blog time went into tidying up the sidbar. I moved the 2005 FOs to an entry and the title in the sidebar links to that. I also removed the Stashquisitions list. Just haven't been keeping up with that and I don't feel like digging through to find the info to update. Besides, most of my recent purchases, besides sock yarn, are going to my May and June Project Spectrum projects, aka, Hubby's Green Aran and Hubby's St. Andrew's Cross Pullover.

I've been knitting away on the second broadripple, started the heel flap last night. I'm still working on the beach jacket, too. I put sleeve 1 aside and will be ripping it shortly after I determine my approach to sleeve 2 was better.

8" of body and 3" of sleeve

I did separate out for the sleeves of the beach jacket on Friday's ride home. I finished up the body yesterday and my Devils game knitting was the first sleeve. I'm about three inches in and it's a pain! I wish I knew where my US7 DPNs were. This two circs things not cutting it for me with this yarn at this gauge and diameter. Oh well, the good thing is the sleeves keep getting smaller when knit from the top down.

I had been worrying about running out of yarn before doing the neckline and the front edges, but I still have a ball I haven't touched, so I should be fine.

I defaulted to 2x2 rib when finishing the body. I'm not sure if I'm going to keep it that way.

I need to pick broadripple back up again. Especially since this jacket is no longer easy commute knitting.

Hubby started a new job yesterday. It's going to be interesting adjusting to a new schedule.

joining sort of mood

So, I guess a joiner bug hit me. Not only did I formalize my participation in Project Spectrum, I signed up for Scout's Dye-O-Rama. I think it was just an excuse to buy more Kool-Aid and plain sock yarn. Yep, first thing this morning I placed an order at Knitpicks.com. I was thinking of going elsewhere, but I'm not sure of the deadlines and stuff and I figured they'd get me my order faster than some other places.

Friday, April 21, 2006

It's official

I've signed up for Project Spectrum. I figured since I've done the orange-overload this month and am planning on following the colors through the end of the project, I should sign up. (I got a nice nudge from Anny Purls about it, too. I think that's my longest comment ever!)

Speaking of orange overload, I've been working on this since Wednesday night. Nice little raglan jacket, knitted from the top down in that Portofino Souffle I ordered last week. It arrived on my desk Tuesday and I couldn't wait to get started. Only a couple more rows and I separate out for the sleeves. Good thing, too. This is getting way too long for the needle. I'm up in the air about how I'm going to finish it, ribbing, zipper, hood?

Here's a little round-up of non-knitting stuff you may be interested in:

Billy had an ENT check-up this week. His ears are doing well (and his doc had great compliments for Ronan).

Our conference at daycare was fine. They are aware that his behavior (hitting, biting, pushing) is typical for his age (being the youngest in his class). But, they have noticed he's becoming more verbal and trying to participate in the learning activities (we've noticed at home he's saying way more words and even trying to sing along). We also made it clear that he doesn't get a chance to interact with other kids outside of daycare (all our cousins' kids are 6 hours away).

Hubby did a lot of yard work this week. He also cooked a mean rib roast Wednesday night. How nice is it to have someone call you as you're heading home to find out what time you'll be there so they can coordinate dinner. Are we sure he has to go back to work next week?

Thanks Gals

Thank you for the compliments on my tote and the lonesome sock. I have cast on for it's mate, but I've not been spending too much time on it. I went to bad way early Monday night. The pollen count is sky high and I just felt like such crud, that I went to bed just after Billy. So, that means 7:45-ish. I feel much better now.

I've been swatching for a top-down raglan jacket for Billy using the Portofino I ordered from Elann last week. I'll start that tonight and have some pics tomorrow.

It's been crazy here, as usual. Hubby's been home this week, and he's making a rib roast for dinner tonight. Now, if only he'd do floors, I'd get into this house husband thing.

Jeanie, the white sock was Lolita legs from Knitty (the link is in my sidebar). That reminds me, I really have to get that first one up to my sister for a try on! Before I know it, May will be here and i'll have to start Hubby's green aran! (That reminds me, I really need to sign up for Project Spectrum.)

half a pair and an Easter tote

I finished the first broadripple over the weekend. I think I kitchenered the toe Friday night. What a fun little sock. I cast on for number toe yesterday.

It was a very busy weekend. We had dinner at the in-laws Friday. Saturday Billy and I went to two playgrounds, I got a haircut, we did some yard work, and Hubby made dinner. Yesterday, we went to church, I sewed a tote watching the Devils game (and did some Molly grooming at the intermissions), then we had dinner at the in-laws. I'm pooped.

I've been stashing a bit of fabric. I'm a sucker for the remnants pile at Joann's and usually grab something everytime I'm there. These happy stripes were from my last trip. I just loved all the printed grosgrain ribbons they had, too. I thought the daisies and stripes were just fun together.

V was for Very Good

I almost don't want to know what Hugo Weaving really looks like (okay, just googled him and realized I know what he looks like). When I first saw the building-sized poster for V for Vendetta on my daily walks to the subway, I thought it looked totally stupid and didn't get the mask. But, I thought it was a great film. The movie critic in our local paper gave it a good review and said it would make you think about the nature of terrorism and if it's ever justified, this is something that comes up in a lot of the reviews of the film. I can't see how anyone can compare the situation in this future-history with what goes on in the world today. I think it's apples and oranges. I can't say that I can justify everything that V does in the film, especially his treatment of Evey, but I also can unequivocally say that I didn't see a lot of parallels between his actions and those of today's terrorists (one big difference being that he told everyone he was going to blow up Parliament and gave plenty of warning).

Anyway, I enjoyed it and got sucked into the whole thing hook, line and sinker. But, I'm a sucker for movies.

My evening didn't quite go as planned. I just missed the 4:35 and didn't get home in time for my planned 6 pm showing. But, I had time to look at my Herrschner's order and do the bills. Then it was a leisurely trip over to the theater. Dinner was still movie theater popcorn (with milk duds). Soon as I got home at 9:45, I went to bed.

The Herrschner's box contained the yarn for Hubby's St Andrews' cross sweater, a pad of orange papers (don't ask what I'm going to do with them, I don't scrapbook), and some fabric for an apron for a shower gift for my favorite bride-to-be. (I'm thinking this one with lime green accents.) The regia is from an order I placed on Elann last week. That's the pumpkin ripple in the front.

mommy's night off*

the plan is:

get out of here as soon as I hit publish so I can catch the 4:35 bus

quickly write the mortgage and phone bills and drop at p.o. before it closes at 5:45

get to the movie theater in time for 6pm showing of V for Vendetta (and to order grossly huge popcorn for dinner)

pick up some dairy queen on the way home if I'm hungry

snoggle my Herrschner's order from last week

go to bed

(all this dependent on traffic, otherwise it will be a 7:20 showing with a dinner of real food and yarn snoggling earlier)

*B is staying with Grammy tonight because daycare is closed tomorrow and she gets the day as a holiday. I don't have to worry about the dog because Grandpa is walking her when he picks up B's bag. Hubby is out with the boys celebrating his last day at the old job

you know you want the orange

I am making orange converts. Come over to the bright side ladies. The best news about the broadripples is that they are cotton, so even though the weather is improving, I can still wear them as soon as I finish.

In other orange news, I ordered some of this from Elann yesterday. In parrot orange of course. It's going to be a little raglan cardi for the B for the spring/summer/hot early fall whilst he can't wear his Ronan. It looks snoogly.

In non-orange knitting news, I have finished the knitting of the first stocking. I'm going to wash it, lace it, and send it up to the bride-to-be for a try on. No sense in knitting two that don't fit!

It was an interesting night chez Netter. Hubby and I have to go meet with our daycare director and lead care giver. Seems Billy is the terror of the center. He's now hitting and poking kids in the eyes. Of course the little note in the lunch box prompted a huge argument, but we're just stumped on what to do. How can we control behavior that's not happening at home? (Y'all got some deja vue going on, because I do.) He's two! It's not like my "speaking to him" is going to do a whole lot of good. Meh. She should just take her whistle and drill-sergeant attitude and go with the toddler flow.

broadripple

I started an April project for Project Spectrum. (they aren't as yellow in real life)

brooding on orange

I've got lots of orange going on lately, but not a lot of pics to share.

I bought some great heavy cotton in a multi stripe (with lots of orange) on Friday. I also bought some wide grossgrain ribbon with pink and orange daisies. Those are going to be a tote bag, someday if I ever start sewing again.

I also bought a ball of Sugar 'n' Cream in hot orange. Billy laid claim to it as soon as he saw it through the Joann bag. Good thing I had bought it with him in mind. I'm making up some washcloths for him. I finished one (garter stitch on US 10s, 14" straight US 10s, I don't know what I was thinking). I'm almost halfway through a seed stitch one.

I printed out the broadripple sock pattern from Knitty so I can start those in my pumpkin fixation stripes.

I think I've got April covered for Project Spectrum. May will be Hubby's Kelly Green Aran. June will be his St. Andrew's Flag sweater. July will be a ribby in calmer for me (Joy, which is the purple, and sour). August will be M-i-L's birthday sweater in brindle (a blend of neutrals). It's kind of srange to me that I'll have all the colors covered except Red, which is my staple wardrobe color (at least for shirts, I don't wear red pants).

Billy told me I could post this for you, until I have some pics of my own orange projects to put up.

I cannot wait for noon

Because I get to leave. Taking a half day is the best.

My parents are visiting, yay! They'll be at the house after I run a couple of errands (need to return a pair of mismarked jeans and get the security tag removed from a hoodie) and pick up the boy.

I'm looking forward to knitting some more on this leg. Only an inch or so more until I get to the finishing. Maybe when I'm out running errands, I'll pick up the ribbon needed for the laces.

Hubby is not a yarn snob

Of course I got the usual "I thought you weren't going to buy anymore yarn" comment from the Hubby last night when he saw the Herrschner's box. Of course, as soon as he saw it was inexpensive cotton yarn for his sweater, he changed his tune.

He loves that the aran sweater's going to be under $30, even if I have to buy a pattern. He still thinks that knitting is supposed to save money. I don't think he gets that part of using more luxurious fibers is that we're talking about my hours of enjoyment of the process. I guess he'd be a product knitter.

He asked if I could get the black socks knitted up before he serves communion May 7. (Not highly likely)

He also asked why I only bought one of the green photo albums on the right. He thinks I should have stocked up for gift-giving.

I wonder how he'll feel when another box shows up next week with more yarn for the other sweater he wants ($1.74 for 129 yards).

I've reached the leg portion on the stockings. I can't believe I'm posting a picture of my unshaved leg on the Internet. Please don't look too closely at the exposed calf. Good thing no one else is here when I get in.

I wound up getting Addis yesterday. They didn't have bamboo circs and the only US4 straights were way too long. I would have killed someone knitting on the bus with those. There will be at least one finished stocking hanging out at my house this weekend.

at the ankle?

I've knitted pattern 2 to 3" as the instructions specify. I guess that means I'm past the ankle. Now, I start to knit flat. Unfortunately, I didn't bring my US4 circs with me today. Oh dear, I guess that means it's a trip to Purl at lunch for some clover circs (if they have them). I don't think addis will work (too slippery for the soft cotton and not pointed enough for the k2tog and skp). I guess I could go with straights (ewwww, I haven't knitted with straights in years).

I'm not looking forward to the trip over to Sullivan street, though. It is snowing like the dickens out there.

Today is a good day, yes I'm still overloaded at work (and my staff member just called to say she's out with viral pneumonia, anyone know if that's contagious), but my Herrschner's package arrives today and we get a new episode of LOST.

just a quickie

I don't really have time to post today. I've got a staff member home with a fever over 103 for the fourth day. Needless to say, I'm busy doing her work as well as my own.

I didn't do too much knitting last night. I spent the evening finishing Predator by Patricia Corwell. I really enjoyed it. I can't believe how long it's been since I finished a novel.

Back to work I go.

a short-rowing we shall go, or rather, we did go

I did my first short-row heel last night, twice. Of course, it's not a true short-row heel. With the fishnets, you don't wrap the slipped stitches. The holes really are design elements. Tonight, I start the leg! I did it twice because I forgot to do the set-up rows (gives you stockinette before the short-rows start) and then I reversed a little incorrectly. A neat little trick. I must do it again (well, other than on the second stocking).
